The Isle of Man Choral Society has been fortunate to receive a grant from the BBC Performing Arts Fund to support a Community Singing Workshop.

In late 2009 the BBC Performing Arts Fund launched “Choral Ambition” designed to identify and support the best aspiring privately run and independently constituted adult or children choirs in any genre of music.

The Choral Society’s successful submission was based on the promotion of choral music on the Island with a choral week consisting of work with in schools encouraging choral singing and finishing with a choral weekend led by an expert choral trainer with a finale concert.

It has been decided to use this grant to bring to the Island Tone Bianca Dahl, Professor of Choral Conducting at the Norwegian Academy of Music and conductor of “Schola Cantorum”.

The Workshop will take place between the Friday 23rd and Sunday 25th July 2010 at the Villa Marina, Douglas.

We have asked Tone Bianca Dahl to lead a workshop of community choral singers of mixed abilities and beginners to work on choral blend and balance, tone and dynamics, in time and in tune, vocal colour and techniques. We are sure this will be interesting and enjoyable for all those who take part.

As the workshop will runs over three days it is intended that people will participate when they are available and that everybody will meet up for the final workshop concert on the Sunday evening.
